We
believe Kindergarten is an
important year of transition between our play-based Preschool
and our exciting Elementary school. Our full day program allows
the children plenty of time to work and play, rest and move
their bodies, engage with peers and build community with the
rest of the school.
Children
develop into beginning writers through a rich literacy program
that helps them learn letters and match sounds and encourages
them to utilize an authentic writing process. Children become
beginning readers with engaging individualized, small and whole
group instruction. In math, our children learn about number
concepts, geometry, logical thinking, measurement, and graphing
all through the use of manipulatives and with a problem solving
approach. Our social studies curriculum includes conflict mediation,
multicultural studies and community building. In science, the
children are asked to observe, predict, experiment and conclude
around a wide variety of interesting topics.
Children
spend an important piece of each day involved in play. The make-believe
area, water/sensory table, art area, block area, storytelling
table, book corner, cooking, woodworking area and others, are
places for children to practice what they are learning, develop
social skills, and develop cognitively by engaging with stimulating
materials. Overall, children are treated with respect and learn
to respect themselves and others in this safe, stimulating and
fun environment.
