School
Profile
Friends’ School
was founded in 1987 and initially run by a small group of dedicated
parents who envisioned a school
where children are revered for who they are and where the whole
child is educated - head, hand and heart. Today, Friends’ continues
this vision. It is a diverse community organized as interconnected,
interdependent groups and individuals dedicated to providing
the best possible educational experience for children. The school
offers a comprehensive independent, nonsectarian school program
for students in Preschool (age 3) through grade five (age 11).
The daily operations
of the school are lead by the director and fulfilled by the teaching
and administrative staff. The long range planning and organization
of the school is the shared responsibility of the director, staff
and the Friends’ School Community Board, which is comprised
of parents, educators, and members of the community at large.
Our
program challenges students to reach their potential through
experimentation, exploration and direct instruction in an experiential
environment that strives for academic excellence, creative
expression, and social responsibility. Friends’ maintains
small classes with low student/teacher ratios, and an active
involved parent
community. At Friends’ we believe that every child is
unique and should be appreciated for who they are and for the
special
gifts they possess.

Parent Involvement
Parent
participation is welcome at Friends’ School and encouraged
for the full functioning and spirit of the school as well as
the success of each child. Parents have the opportunity to participate
in classroom activities, community wide celebrations, educational
events, and to volunteer in a variety of ways including participation
on the Parent Council or serving on the Community Board. Parent
involvement provides support and enhancement for the experience
of students and their families.
