In the 2013-2014 school year, The Carol Kitzinger Teaching Scholarship was established in the memory of an exceptional teacher, Carol Kitzinger. During the Great Depression, Ms. Kitzinger lived in a farmhouse without electricity or running water. As our country entered World War II, she graduated as the valedictorian of her high school class. Attending college on scholarship, she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree and teaching certificate, and taught for many years in junior high and high schools in the Denver area.
The scholarship is awarded to teaching candidates who show exceptional potential as teachers and who have unmet financial need. The Carol Kitzinger Teaching Scholarship provides one full tuition scholarship for the Friends School Teacher Preparation Program. The award is based on a combination of merit and need, using the Friends’ Teacher Preparation Program Application and Interview Process in conjunction with this application.
