Annual Fund


The Annual Fund Campaign is Friends School’s largest fundraiser and seeks contributions to make up the difference between the cost of educating our students and tuition. At Friends School, tuition covers approximately 85% of expenses. Your tax-deductible donations to the school support the operating budget and ensure the quality of education at Friends School. This year's Annual Fund campaign runs from November 14 to December 13, but of course gifts are welcome at any time until the end of our fiscal year on June 30. 

Friends School is proud to have outstanding participation in our Annual Fund: Each year 100% of our faculty/staff and board and between 85-100% of our families give to the Annual Fund.

Every donation of any amount makes a difference as we bridge the gap between tuition and the true cost to educate a child. Contributions to the Annual Fund range from $50-$50,000.

  • What is the Annual Fund?

    In short, it is Friends’ largest fundraiser that happens every year. 
  • What does it do?

    At all private schools, the cost of educating a child exceeds tuition. The Annual Fund makes up the difference to make sure that the students and teachers get what they need to provide a top-notch education. 
  • Why not just raise tuition?

    If we did, most of Friends’ families would not be able to afford tuition and we would lose the diversity that helps make our community so unique.
  • Where does my money go and how does it benefit my child?

    Your tax-deductible donation to the school supports the following year’s operating budget —approximately 6%—and ensures the quality of education at Friends’ School. So, many of the things that your child is enjoying today were paid for by previous annual fund donors. Your gift not only benefits your child, but the children who attend Friends’ in the coming year or beyond. Here are some specific ways the AF makes Friends’ an outstanding school:
    • Educational trips, such as Calwood, zoos and museums.
    • Professional development for our teachers to assure that they stay current and adhere to highest quality teaching standards, such as Gender and Diversity Training.
    • Performers for our wonderful weekly gatherings, such as W.O.L.F. and Hawk Quest.
    • Parent Education events, such as Mindful Parenting, Hands-on Math Series, and Hands-on Science.
    • A low teacher-student ratio with the very best teachers, teacher candidates and specialists in art, music, literacy, Spanish, math, P.E., technology, and library.

    For dollar amounts tied to more specific impacts, here are a few approximate examples of your donation at work:
    • $25 buys a playground ball for the preschool
    • $300 is the average cost of a presenter for our weekly Gatherings
    • $500 provides games for Physical Education
    • $1,000 gives Annual Health Training for school staff.
    • $1,500 means new books for our library for the year
    • $2,000 would buy software package, such as Kaymbu picture-sharing software
    • $5,000 is the approximate cost of a marketing video for the school or the cost of the Silver & Gold Ceremony
    • $15,000 is the cost of one phase of a security system
  • When do I give?

    The 2016-17 Connect the Hearts campaign is short, running from November 14th through December 13th. Of course, gifts to this year’s Annual Fund are welcome at any time until the end of our fiscal year on June 30th. 
  • Who gives?

    Each year members of our incredibly generous community—parents, grandparents, alumni and trustees— support the fund. Friends’ School is proud to have outstanding participation in our Annual Fund: Each year 100% of our staff and board and between 70-100% of our families give to the Annual Fund.
  • How much should I give?

    We realize that there are a lot of worthy organizations to give your hard-earned money to these days. We kindly ask that while your child is at Friends’ School that you make our school a giving priority. We don’t ask for specific amounts during the campaign— just that you make a gift that is meaningful for your family. Contributions to the Annual Fund range from $50 to $50,000. Every donation is greatly appreciated and amounts are confidential and not publicized.
  • Will I be recognized for my gift?

    Yes! In addition to heartfelt gratitude, your name will be listed on our website and in publications such as the Annual Report, unless you wish to remain anonymous. For leadership gifts, please see Leadership Circles information on this page.

  • Friends Circle

    $1,000 -$2,499 Donors are invited to the Annual Fund Thank You Party.
  • Head, Hand, Heart Circle

    $2,500 - $4,999 Donors are invited to the Annual Fund Thank You Party and to a group breakfast with the Head of School.
  • Silver and Gold Circle

    $5,000-$9,999 Donors are invited to the Annual Fund Thank You Party, receive five tickets for the “parking spot” Auction drawing and are invited to a special small group experience with the Head of School.
  • 1987 Circle

    $10,000+ Donors are invited to the Annual Fund Thank You Party, receive 10 tickets for the “parking spot” drawing and are invited to a small group dinner with the Head of School.
