
SPECIALISTS IN LITERACY & MATH
In the elementary school, Friends School Math and Literacy Specialists support classrooms, teachers, and parents. These specialists work in the classrooms during some math and literacy blocks to increase theĀ ratio of teachers to students, All elementary students are assessed in literacy 2-3 times per year to help guide instruction. Additionally, Math and Literacy Specialists conduct workshops for parents to supportĀ their work at home with their children. In the middle school, tutorials in math and literacy are available each week to support students who require additional support in math and literacy.
SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGIST / MIDDLE SCHOOL COUNSELOR
Our preschool and elementary teachers partner with several clinical psychologists with private practices in Boulder. Teachers bring questions and concerns they might have about student behavior. The school psychologists offers suggestions on how best to meet individual student needs in the school setting. They are also available by phone and email for teacher consultation and upon occasion for parent advice. Parents are responsible for fees associated with the student evaluations.
We understand the intricacies and dynamic nature of early adolescence. In our middle school, the school counselor provides weekly wellness classes for all students. These classes address typical middle school issues and provide tools for self-advocacy, solid decision-making and stress reduction. Additionally she is available for one-on-one meetings for students who need additional support.
