At a very early age I knew I wanted to be a teacher. As a small child I had an imaginary classroom. I would spend hours teaching my “students”, namely any neighbors or siblings I could coax into indulging in my fantasy. When I entered middle school I was given the opportunity to teach Sunday school. From the first day I walked into the classroom, I knew that teaching truly was my calling. Throughout the years I have had many experiences that reinforced my desire to be a teacher and helped me form some core values for working with children. Watching a child finally read a word correctly, seeing a child’s face light up when he/she masters a concept, interacting with children as they explore a new idea, and forming a unique bond with each student are a few things I look forward to everyday I am in the classroom.
I majored in psychology, with a concentration in special education at Virginia Commonwealth University, interned at the Austine School for the Deaf in Vermont, and have spent years tutoring youth privately. After college and a brief career with the Monday Night Football crew, I moved to Lake Tahoe to teach skiing to young children. Most recently, I have worked as a Facilitator and Director of Programs for 4-10 year olds at Open Connections, an educational resource center for free-schooling and homeschooling families in the greater Philadelphia area. While working at Open Connections, I completed a Masters degree in Science in Curriculum and Learning and Teaching, with a concentration in Education Administration at Drexel University. I also served as the Athletic Director for a non-profit summer program in the Allegheny Mountains for nine years. I am thrilled to living in Colorado and continuing to work at Friends School.
When I am not in the classroom, I am most likely enjoying the great outdoors. I love skiing, lacrosse, hiking and sailing, among other sports. I also enjoy walking my dogs Sailor and Grady, adventures, and meeting new people.
