I am so excited to be a Teacher Candidate this year and to get to know the amazing community here at the Friends School. I was born and raised in the Bay Area of Northern California, and come from a huge Greek family. While I am not from Boulder myself, I come from a long line of educators who taught elementary, middle, high school, and even college right here in Boulder over the past few generations. Needless to say, my relatives are thrilled that I am taking on the family profession, especially after my brief stint as a professional video gamer!
I graduated from University of California, Davis with a Bachelor of Science in Plant Sciences. I love botany, ecology, and understanding plant-pollinator interactions, and am looking forward to sharing my passion for nature with students. School was always a challenge for me, as I went through the bulk of my life as a student with undiagnosed learning disabilities, so while my path to becoming an educator has been somewhat atypical I am really excited to offer my perspective to the classroom and to work with students who may have a similar story. Outside of the classroom these days you can often find me rock climbing, painting, drawing, crocheting, camping, and while I don’t quite pull the stats that I used to–playing lots of video games!
I am passionate about understanding the sociology of education, and gaining a deeper understanding of the role of education as a foundation for the success of children as individuals and as global community members. I am really thrilled to be working with Friends School in particular because of their commitment to meet students where they are and to educate with a holistic approach, providing students with the best skills to critically think and engage with their worlds. All of the Friends School teachers and staff have been dynamic, caring, interesting, and engaged people and I could not be more honored to be a part of this team and look forward to really being a part of the Friends School family!
