I love my role as a teacher educator! After receiving my EdD in Leadership for Educational Equity with a specialization in Instructional Leadership in December 2015, I was perfectly equipped to guide the learning of future teachers. Because I am committed to the support and growth of pre-service teachers, the Friends School Teacher Preparation Program is a perfect fit. Watching teacher candidates grow into amazingly skilled educators is tremendously satisfying and makes me feel confident about the future of our schools. In addition, I teach courses for the School of Education and Human Development at UCD. Prior to my time in higher ed, I spent several years teaching in preschool, elementary and high school classrooms, with many of those years spent right here at Friends.
I am a self-proclaimed (and I’m sure identified by others) nerd! I love school, teaching, books, and really any type of learning setting. For example, I annoy my mechanic with continual questions. I will sit and watch an air balloon take off (even if I have somewhere to be) just to see how the process is completed. You get the picture?! Basically, I love to fill my brain with more info – no matter the subject matter!
I continually state that human beings are the most fascinating species on the planet. I firmly believe this, as we do some wonderful, magnificent, troubling and downright devious things. Because of my fascination with, well, us, I am a people watcher. I will often spend my spare time doing things where I can observe or be with others – sitting at a coffee shop, hanging at a park or trail, and even watching reality TV.
