As I look back on my childhood, it’s clear to me that teaching was an inevitable part of my life’s path. My grandmother was a teacher who would get stopped in the street by former students who had a fond memory or was moved to thank her. She was my own personal super hero. I never sat in her class, but I was definitely her student. She taught me to embrace joy, kindness, and patience. Being from a family who highly values education both in and out of a typical classroom, only solidified my love for learning and sharing that passion with others. I find great joy in seeing those “aha” moments, sparking a new interest for a student, and building a community of passionate learners.
After I graduated from Purdue University in 2004 in elementary education, I taught a variety of grade levels, and recently found a home in fourth grade. Personally, I am always seeking something new to explore or learn. I have a pair of itchy travel feet and I enjoy exploring this beautiful state in any way I can with my husband and two dogs. Depending on the season, I divide my time hiking, swimming, camping, bicycling, skateboarding, snowboarding, and most recently kite flying.
