Stephanie Pax Flanigan served as Head of School of the Montessori School of Denver (MSD) for 18 years and is the former President of the Association of Colorado Independent Schools (ACIS). She has led numerous accreditation teams for ACIS, including one for Friends School, as well as served for many years on its accreditation committee. She was a member of the Graland Country Day School Board of Trustees and the Head’s Council of Hathaway Brown School in Cleveland, Ohio, of which she is an alumnae. She is a frequent presenter at the American Montessori Society (AMS) Annual Conference, the National Association of Independent Schools Annual Conference, and the annual ACIS Leadership Conference. Stephanie has a lifelong interest in theater and has been a member of the Board of Directors of Curious Theater Company, a small regional theater group in Denver, and the Board of Trustees of Colorado Ballet, where she served as Secretary. Stephanie holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in American Studies from Mount Holyoke College and a Juris Doctorate degree from Case Western University School of Law. Prior to working with independent schools, Stephanie worked for 15 years as a trial lawyer in Boston, Washington, DC and Denver. Stephanie and her husband, John, have three children, all of whom graduated from ACIS schools. She currently consults with schools and non-profits on matters of accreditation, leadership, board development, governance, and strategic planning.
